The European Commission identified two new Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) under REACH. Benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid 1,2 anhydride (trimellitic anhydride) and dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP) will be added to the ECHA Candidate list at the next scheduled update.
By Bureau Veritas Technical Services 1 minute readBy publishing two Commission Implementing Decisions the European Commission identified two new substances of very high concern. Therefore the ECHA Candidate list is extended at the next scheduled update, currently foreseen for the end of June or beginning of July 2018.
Once a substance is put on the candidate list, producers, importers or suppliers may have to consider communication obligations (Article 33 of REACH regulation) that require them to provide business clients and consumers with information on the safe use of any product containing SVHC exceeding 0.1% (w/w). Retailers have 45 days to respond to an inquiry by consumers in regards to the presence of SVHC in the product.
LIST OF NEW SVHC
Substance name | CAS No. | Remarks* |
---|---|---|
Dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP) | 84-61-7 | Might be used as plasticisers example in plastisol and in PVC, rubber and plastic articles. Might be used as well as phlegmatizer and dispersing agent for formulations of organic peroxides. |
Benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid 1,2 anhydride (trimellitic anhydride) | 552-30-7 | Might be used in the production of polymers and esters, such as synthesis of plasticizers for PVC resins or reactant in wire and cable insulation enamels and polyester resins for powder coating. Also used in laboratories. Exposure to TMA is not expected for consumers. |
