2017 EU Hardlines Recalls Review

Here we summarize the results of the Rapid Alert System for dangerous hard goods products for 2017. In 2017, a total of 171 hardline alerts have been registered on the RAPEX website, a decline of 15% on the 202 registered in 2016.

Alerts by Notifying Country

The above chart graph shows the difference by Member State between the number of notifications submitted in the Rapid Alert System in 2016 and 2017. The Netherlands was the largest notifier followed by Finland, Sweden, Spain, Germany, Poland and Belgium.

The biggest rise in notifications came in the Netherlands rising from under 19 in 2016 to 27 in 2017.

Alerts by Type of Risk

The above chart shows the number of alerts by type of risk in the Rapid Alert System in 2016 and 2017. Chemical risks were the largest category followed by Injuries, Fire, Asphyxiation and Environment.

Alerts by Country of Origin

The above chart shows the number of alerts by country of origin from the Rapid Alert System in 2016 and 2017. Unsurprisingly, due to the sheer size of manufacturing base, China dominates, followed by Pakistan and Spain.

Alerts by Product Category



The above chart shows the number of alerts by country of origin from the Rapid Alert System in 2016 and 2017. Sports equipment dominated followed by jewellery and pyrotechnic articles.

Risks by Product Category

By analyzing the above chart, it can be seen the type of risks that need to be understood when sourcing different product categories, from chemical hazards for jewellery to burn hazards with lighters and gas appliances.
