2017 EU Electrical & Electronics Recalls Review

Here we summarize the results of the Rapid Alert System for dangerous Electrical and Electronic products for 2017. In 2017, a total of 307 electrical & electronics alerts have been registered on the RAPEX website, a slight increase on the 299 registered in 2016.

Alerts by Notifying Country

The above chart graph shows the difference by Member State between the number of notifications submitted in the Rapid Alert System in 2016 and 2017. Spain was the largest notifier followed by Hungary, Finland, UK, Germany and Sweden.

Big rises in notifications came in Croatia rising from under 2 in 2016 to 11 in 2017 as well as Sweden, Poland, Finland and UK.

Alerts by Type of Risk

The above chart shows the number of alerts by type of risk in the Rapid Alert System in 2016 and 2017. Electric shock risks were the largest category by far followed by Fire and Damage to sight.

Alerts by Country of Origin

The above chart shows the number of alerts by country of origin from the Rapid Alert System in 2016 and 2017. Unsurprisingly, due to the sheer size of manufacturing base, China dominates, followed by Germany and Hong Kong.

Alerts by Product Category



The above chart shows the number of alerts by country of origin from the Rapid Alert System in 2016 and 2017. Electrical appliances dominated followed by lighting equipment and chains.

Risks by Product Category

By analyzing the above chart, it can be seen the type of risks that need to be understood when sourcing different product categories, from electric shock for all products to cuts for machinery and burn risks for electrical appliances.
